Congratulations Student Leadership Award Winners!

April 25, 2024 – Three senior students are being recognized for making a positive impact in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. Shout out to Jasmine Zhao, Jason Pang and Kelly Chia for providing new ideas, leadership, and long-standing service to benefit students and the overall LFS community. They are each being awarded a 2024 LFS Undergraduate Student Leadership Award.

The LFS Undergraduate Society (LFS|US) created this award to recognize students who have made contributions to student life through their leadership, and left a lasting impact that will enrich the experience of LFS students. Each winner receives a $500 gift card to the UBC Bookstore. To be recognized, students must be nominated by the members of LFS community (including staff and faculty members, fellow students or alumni), with final award recipients determined by an Awards Committee.

Jasmine Zhao – Food, Nutrition and Health (Dietetics)

Jasmine Zhao enjoys meeting new-to-UBC students and ensuring they have a good experience when they start university. She has been involved with LFS Firsts for 2 years and Imagine UBC for 3 years, where she led community-building activities, provided mentorship and pointed students towards UBC resources and involvement opportunities. She has also been involved with LFS|US as an LFS Week Coordinator, and is currently Co-Chair of the UBC Dietetic Student Community.

Jason Pang – Global Resource Systems

Jason Pang has held many student leadership roles in LFS, and in his senior years he was a Teaching Assistant and LFS Student Ambassador. Passionate about sustainability, he also served as AVP Sustainability with the UBC Alma Mater Society for two years.

Kelly Chia – Food, Nutrition and Health (Dietetics)

Kelly Chia is motivated to make change and ensure the LFS|US has systems in place to support students in the long-term. They have made changes to improve long-term sustainability through both financial means and through administrative improvements.
