FNH Specialization
Before you use this form to request a change-of-year standing, note the following:
- Information on year level promotions can be found in the Academic Calendar
- Year-end promotions are automatically updated on the SSC during the month of May each year. Requests made using this form after May are only reviewed on the following schedule: Year 4 promotions after Term 1, Year 2-4 promotions after the Summer Session. All requests outside of this schedule will not be considered.
- Courses in progress do not count towards meeting the minimum credits required for year-level promotion. Grades must be available on the SSC to be included in the calculations.
Students will be promoted according to the following criteria:
- Second year promotion requires a successful completion of 24 or more credits of prescribed first-year courses
- Third year promotion requires a successful completion of 54 or more credits, and all the required first-year courses
- Fourth year promotion requires a successful completion of a total of 89 or more credits, including completion of all first- and second-year courses
We are not able to promote your year level until the requirements listed above are fully met. Please feel free to email LFS Student Services with questions or concerns.

Please note that several programs in the Faculty of Land & Food Systems have a competitive admissions process and require an application. These programs cannot be added via this online form.

Food Science is a competitive major, however, as a Food and Nutritional Sciences double major you are welcome to switch to the Food Science single major without re-applying.

Letter of Permission Request
Once you are a student at UBC, we expect you will complete your coursework at UBC. Therefore, you are not normally permitted to take courses for academic credit at other post-secondary institutions concurrently with your program in the Faculty.

Permission is normally given only if you have previously failed a course twice at UBC. If this happens, you will be required to complete the equivalent at another institution to provide you with the best possible chance of successfully passing it. If you find yourself in this situation, please speak with an Academic Advisor before completing this form.
