Food Science Major / Food & Nutritional Sciences Double Major Application

    To apply for admission into these majors after first year, the student should have completed at least 24 credits of the listed first year courses (or their equivalent) by April 30 of the application year, with a minimum academic standing of at least 70%, calculated based on the best 21 credits* of post-secondary courses required in this program. The Language Proficiency Index (LPI) must also be successfully completed (Level 5), unless the student has been given exemption by the registrar.

    To apply for admission into these majors after second year, the student should have completed at least 48 credits of listed first and second year courses (or their equivalent) by April 30 of the application year, with a minimum academic standing of at least 70%, calculated based on the best 21 credits per year* of post-secondary courses required in this program. In addition, the student must have completed LFS 150 or ENGL 112 or equivalent.

    Admission after a subsequent year will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    * The 21 credits may NOT include LFS100, LFS250, LFS350, or LFS450

  • Along with this application form, the student must submit a short Letter of Intent (500 words maximum) as described below. This statement must be signed by the applicant.

  • Guidelines for the Letter of Intent

    The application to the Food Science Major, and the Food and Nutrition Double Major requires you to submit a letter of intent with your application. Your letter of intent, in 500 words or less, should address the following points:

    1. Why do you want to enroll in the Food Science major, or the Food and Nutritional Science major?
    2. What are your career aspirations?
    3. Please describe any personal, volunteer, or work experiences that demonstrate your interest in food and/or nutrition.
    4. If you have taken less than 24 credits per year, please include a brief explanation of why (please note that information of a confidential nature is not required).
    5. Your signature and date must be on the letter.

    This information will be kept confidential, and used only for evaluation of the application.
