Congratulations to Order of Canada recipient Nina von Keyserlingk

January 9, 2026 — Huge congratulations to Nina von Keyserlingk who has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada! The Order of Canada is one of our country’s highest honours, recognizing people from all sectors of society who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to Canada.
Dr. von Keyserlingk is a global leader in animal welfare science, transforming the way people think about farm animals. Her influential work has guided animal agriculture towards meaningful change in Canada and around the world. In addition, Dr. von Keyserlingk has made a profound impact on the academic and professional development of students – last year winning the competitive Dr. Suning Wang Award for Outstanding Graduate Mentorship from the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS), and previously winning Killam Prizes for research, teaching, and mentorship.
The UBC Animal Welfare Program now has two Order of Canada recipients, as Professor Emeritus David Fraser was named a Member of the Order of Canada in 2005.
This year, there were a total of 80 Order of Canada appointees, and 15 of them were affiliated with UBC.
