Farm Discovery Tours
Field Trips

Every fall and spring the UBC Farm offers field trips for school classes from elementary to secondary levels. The field trip focuses on where food comes from, how we grow food and the social and community responsibilities to food production and the food system. The field trips provide an opportunity for students to see a working organic farm, learn about organic farming techniques and to discuss some of the social and political aspects of food. Ask about visiting the pumpkin patch during the fall tours.
Field trips can be tailored to cater to your class's needs and cover prescribed learning outcomes such as:
- Basic plant ecology and soil science
- How organic material is recycled back into the environment
- Uses and importance of water
- Introduction to organic farming techniques
- Understanding our place in the food system
- Demonstrating an environmentally and socially sustainable food system
Spring and fall field trips are offered Monday to Friday in the mornings and afternoons depending on availability. The cost is:
- Groups of 13 or more students - $5/student
- Groups of up to 12 students - $60
Ideal group sizes for tours are less than 30. If your group is much larger please contact us and let us know your special situation. For more information and bookings please contact the UBC Farm School Tours Program Coordinators at ubcfarm.tour@gmail.com.
