Please note that the farm has no full-time office staff to answer the phone and check messages, and we spend much of our time out in the field. E-mail is generally a better way to reach us. If you do leave us a message, we will do our best to get back to you as soon as we can.

Hours

The public are welcome to visit the farm. During the main growing season (May - October), the gates are typically open Tuesday - Saturday, 9-5. During the off-season (November - April) the gates may be closed if field staff have off-farm commitments. Please call the office at 604-822-5092 to see if the gates are open during the off-season. We ask all visitors to respect and enjoy the space, and not to disturb any plants, equipment, or research aparatus in the garden. Please keep all dogs leashed while at the farm.

UBC Farm Centre

The UBC Farm is located in the South Campus area of the University of British Columbia - the portion of the campus located south of 16th Ave. To reach the Farm, follow Wesbrook Mall past the lights at 16th Ave. Turn right on South Campus Road. The main Farm entrance is at 6182 South Campus Road. To get to the Farm Centre walk or bike through the gates, turn right and follow the gravel road until you reach a red roofed building (the Farm Centre) beside a small glass greenhouse.

Getting to the UBC Farm by public transit

Option 1: (From downtown, north shore mountains, Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal, east vancouver ). Take #99 b-line west to the UBC bus loop (or any other bus that gets you to the UBC bus loop). At the bus loop, transfer to either # 41 , 43 , 49 , 480, 25, or any other bus that travels south on Wesbrook Mall. Get off at the big traffic roundabout at 16th Ave. and Wesbrook Mall, and continue walking/riding/wheeling, south on Wesbrook Mall (same direction the bus was driving, opposite direction of mountains) until you see South Campus Road on your right. Go up south campus road and the farm is the second driveway on the left. All told the walk from the bus stop is about 15 minutes.

Option 2: (from south end of Vancouver, Dunbar , Kerrisdale, Marpole, Airport, Tsawassen Ferry terminal). Take the 41 , 43 , 49 , or 480 to S.W. Marine drive. Get off at S.W. Marine Drive and Wesbrook Mall (first traffic light after you drive through Pacific Spirit Park ). Walk North (only direction possible) up Wesbrook mall, and you'll see South Campus Road on your left. Go up south campus road and the farm is the second driveway on the left. All told the walk from the bus stop is about 15 minutes.

Once you arrive at the farm, enter through the main gates and follow the gravel road to the right until you come to the Farm Centre, the last building on the road with a red shingled roof.

Accessibility FAQs:

Q: Are there wheelchair -accessible washrooms nearby?

A: None of our permanent buildings have wheelchair-accessible washrooms. For large events, we try to order a wheelchair -accessible porta-potty and keep it in close proximity to the event. Please check in with us about the specific event you are attending to determine whether we have ordered a wheelchair-accessible porta-potty.

Q: Is there a place nearby I can park?

A: There is a small parking lot just outside the gates where you are welcome to park. Keep in mind that each event we have at the farm is slightly different. For some smaller events and meetings we can likely offer a parking spot inside the farm gates very close to the event itself. For large events, we make sure to reserve the parking lot at our front entrance for people with limited mobility.

Q:What is the distance between the parking lot and my event on the farm?

A: From our front entrance parking lot, you are approximately 200 feet away from the events field and Saturday Farm market, and 1000 feet away from the Farm Centre.

Q: Is the ground fairly open and even (any protruding rocks/roots, any potholes, any narrow walkways)?

A: The parking lot in front of the gate is mostly packed gravel and dirt, though some of it is grass. It's got a very slight downward slope at parts. The roads to the Saturday Farm market, and Farm Centre are packed gravel with no major protrusions, but depending on the time of year and how recently it has been repaired, there may be some potholes. You should be able to navigate around them with care. If you are coming for a farm tour, the terrain is generally bumpy off the road. We have had wheelchairs on tours before, but we generally recommend having someone to push your wheelchair, if possible, and only if you don't mind a bumpy ride at times. If it has been raining steadily, you may want to be cautious as some fields and paths are very muddy.

Q: Will there be wheelchairs provided for use during the event?

A: We do not generally provide wheelchairs for events.

Q: The public transit stop is about a 15 minute walk from the farm. Are there any shuttles available?

A: At this time, there are no shuttles available between transit stops and the farm, nor between main campus and the farm.
