Do I have to have a research topic chosen before I begin?
Having a specific research topic is helpful but not required. It is however recommended that applicant should have an area of research interest in mind when applying. 

How do I choose a supervisor?
Visit the research faculty web section and contact the faculty member whose area of research matches yours.

How long will it take to complete my degree?
It is usually expected that a Masters degree will be completed within 2 - 3 years, and a PhD degree within 4 - 5 years. However, individual completion times may vary.

What are the deadlines for admissions and how soon will I hear regarding acceptance?
Review the UBC Graduate Studies Deadlines web section and the Faculty's  Graduate Program Application Deadlines web section.

How do I decide what classes to take?
Course selection is decided in consultation with the Research Supervisor and upon approval of the Supervisory Committee.

What is the level of financial support I can expect to receive from UBC or the Faculty?

Is it expensive to live in Vancouver?
In addition to tuition and student fee costs, Canada Immigration has determined a base-line figure of $10,000 Canadian as representing the basic cost of living expenses a single student should expect to incur annually while living in Canada.
