Faculty of Land and Food Systems Financial Support InformationUPDATED: March 21, 2012 WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR OUR 3 2012-2013 FOUR YEAR FELLOWSHIPS. Faculty who wish to nomination a current 1st year PhD student or an incoming PhD student have until FRIDAY, MARCH 23rd to submit the student's name via email to the Manager, Graduate Programs, LFS. WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM STUDENTS FOR THE "LFS GREATER THAN $10,000 AWARDS" - application deadline is Monday, April 2nd. The LFS Graduate Student Awards and Scholarship Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, April 11th to review applications and nominations for 4YF's and LFS Awards Greater Than $10,000. Successful applicants from both of these groups of nominations should be notified by the week of April 16th.
Faculty of Land and Food Systems Scholarships & AwardsThe Faculty administers several scholarships and awards of varying values. These scholarships and awards are generally awarded for academic achievement, but some may require achievement in other areas such as leadership, community service, performance in a specific course or area, or for some other specified characteristic. All students enrolled in LFS graduate programs are considered for funding, as appropriate to their field and academic achievement. For awards less than $10,000, there is no application required. Nominations are submitted to the Manager, Graduate Programs by the Graduate Advisor for each of the LFS graduate programs. For awards greater than $10,000, students are required to submit an application. List of 2011-2012 Awards - The list for 2012-2013 will be posted in summer 2012 (expected date: June-July). Students do NOT apply for these awards; nominations are submitted from Graduate Program Advisors to the Manager, Graduate Programs for consideration. Application for LFS Awards Greater Than $10,000. Please note: Due date is April 2, 2012 (including ALL supplemental documentation - transcripts, letters of support, etc.). Late or incomplete applications WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Graduate Student Travel Awards - Require Application - No DeadlineTravel awards will help cover the travel costs for students presenting a research paper or poster describing their thesis research at a scientific meeting outside British Columbia. Awards are valued at $400 for MSc, $600 for PhD students. Download Student Travel Award Instructions (Microsoft Word document) Bursaries - Do not apply (merit or need based)Bursaries are monetary gifts provided to students for the purpose of financial assistance for expenses incurred while pursuing an academic program. Financial need is the primary consideration in the selection of bursary recipients. Bursaries are only available to Canadian and Permanent Residents, who hold active student loans. Teaching and Research Assistantships are intended to provide students with an opportunity to learn and develop skills in a classroom setting. UBC Scholarships and Awards- Require ApplicationUniversity Affiliated Fellowshps - competition deadline mid-September Fellowships are offered through an annual competition; the competition for Affiliated Fellowships is combined with the competition for NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR Master’s scholarships held early in the fall term. Note that the competition is held in early September, for funding starting the following year in September. Graduate Student Travel Award The Work Study Program is a wage subsidy program that encourages on-campus employers to create career related on-campus work for eligible students.
