Assistant Professor in Animal Welfare

The University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Faculty of Land and Food Systems (www.landfood.ubc.ca) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Animal Welfare, within the Applied Biology Program. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of animal welfare through research, teaching, and public outreach. We welcome applications from candidates interested in animals kept by people for different purposes, including food production, companionship and research. We also welcome scholars from both the natural and social sciences. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024.
The expected salary range for this position is $125,000-130,000 per annum, plus benefits. Salary is competitive, negotiable, and commensurate with experience, and is subject to final budgetary approval.
The UBC Animal Welfare Program (https://awp.landfood.ubc.ca/) is one of the largest and most respected programs in the world in the field of animal welfare science. Since its inception in 1997, the program’s research has led to improvements in the lives of animals in British Columbia and around the world. The mission of the program is to improve the welfare and humane care of animals through active efforts in research, education and public outreach.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a related area, ideally supplemented with postdoctoral or equivalent experience. Candidates must have a strong record of peer reviewed research in animal welfare, a passion for teaching and mentoring, and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative and collaborative research in the field of animal welfare, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and provide leadership within the Program, Faculty, University and within the field.
