The UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre is nestled below the snow-capped Cascade Mountains in southwestern British Columbia’s beautiful Fraser Valley. The Centre is located immediately north of Agassiz (pop. 5,000) on land leased from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. It is approximately 130 km east of UBC’s Vancouver campus and 30 km from either Chilliwack or Hope.

World famous Minter Gardens and Harrison Hot Springs are less than a 10 minute drive from the Centre.

Travel Directions

Visitors from Vancouver ... 

  • Travel east through the Fraser Valley on Highway #1 (Trans Canada Highway) past Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford and Chilliwack eventually reaching the base of the mountains. 
  • Leave the highway at Exit #135 (Highway #9) to Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs. 
  • Follow Highway #9 across the Fraser River through Agassiz towards Harrison Hot Springs. 
  • After crossing the CPR tracks on the north side of Agassiz turn left onto Highway #7 and the Centre is to your immediate right. The Dairy Centre’s buildings are located on the west side of the AAFC/UBC building site. All visitors must report to the manager’s office when they first arrive at the Centre and before entering UBC buildings. The manager’s office is located in the prominent white building with blue trim and cathedral windows.

Visitors' Welcome and Protocol

Individuals and groups interested in agriculture, particularly dairy production, are encouraged to visit the Centre, which is both a working research facility and a working dairy farm. The Centre is developing educational features designed for the many thousands of visitors received each year.

For safety and biosecurity reasons all visitors are required to abide by the following;

  1. Enter the main building first by means of the entrance facing the parking area
  2. Sign the guest book located inside the main entrance each time you visit
  3. Check-in with a farm staff memberat the manager's office
  4. If you have visited another farm during the day please wear clean clothes, including footwear
  5. Cover shoes with plastic booties provided at the main entrance
