Christian Brümmer

I studied Physical Geography with focus on climatology at the Ruhr-University of Bochum (RUB), Germany. My subsidiary subjects were Geology and Cartography. After graduating from university in early 2004, I joined the Atmospheric Environmental Research Division at the Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research (IMK-IFU) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, as a PhD student. In this period I conducted field and lab measurements using the eddy-covariance (EC) method as well as static and dynamic chambers to study the effect of land use on greenhouse gas exchange and soil microbial processes in West African savanna ecosystems. I moved to Vancouver to join the Biometeorology & Soil Physics Group in early 2008. Beside a general interest in the role of controlling environmental factors on biosphere-atmosphere interactions of carbon and nitrogen trace gases and water under a changing climate, my research focuses on improving and interpreting EC-derived data with regard to an unclosed energy balance and advective fluxes.
