Funding opportunities at the Centre exist in education and research infrastructure.

Education: Education, through research and teaching, is a primary function of the Avian Research Centre. Much of the Centre's research productivity arises from graduate student training. Graduate students devote full time to their studies and research for periods of 2 to 5 years depending upon the type of their degree program, the nature of their research and the availability of financial support.

Graduate students require at least $15,000 per year to cover books, housing, clothing, food, etc. Costs for research materials, etc. are normally covered by research grants awarded to their academic supervisors. UBC is competing with universities around the world for the very best and brightest students.

For Canada's poultry industry to remain globally competitive it is clear we must continue to attract the very best young scientists. To help meet this goal we are working hard to develop endowment funds to provide sustained financial support for students studying animal nutrition, animal reproduction and animal welfare. We are seeking donations in addition to the following endowment funds to provide full award support to at least one graduate student.

Dr. Wilson Henderson Memorial Graduate Fellowship Up to $11,000, One awarded to a MSc or PhD student, with preference given to those studying in the field of avian nutrition.

C W Roberts Memorial Scholarship $3,000.00 One or more scholarships totalling $3,000 are awarded to students in the poultry science area, undertaking programs in genetics or management. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies. An application is not required.
