CURRENT FUNDING PRIORITIES
PROGRAM SUPPORT
After 10 years, federal support for the Program’s core budget will be come to an end in 2007. Now, more than ever, we need the financial support of individuals and organizations to maintain the Program's success. To date, we have raised half the funds required to support the Program in perpetuity.
Help us continue to improve the lives of animals at home and abroad.
HAYNES SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF ANIMAL WELFARE
In 2007, Diane Haynes initiated a unique scholarship in animal welfare. A UBC alum, Haynes graduated with a BA in Religious Studies in 1989 and returned to UBC in 2003 to take "Animal Welfare and the Ethics of Animal Use" in the Animal Welfare Program. She then went on to write three mystery novels for teens based on her experiences in wildlife rescue. The Haynes Scholarship for the Advancement of Animal Welfare is offered to graduate students in the Animal Welfare Program and in interdisciplinary studies. The award supports students conducting research on reducing animal suffering through such means as education, the media and the law.
The endowment stands at $25,328 and the scholarship has been awarded 4 times to date. Once the endowment reaches $30,000, the annual award will total $1,000. To contribute to this unique scholarship, please contact the Development Office at 604.822.8910 or lfs.development@landfood.ubc.ca.
